Medical Malpractice
Post-Cardiac Catheterization Failure to Monitor
The firm obtained a $1.7 million settlement on behalf of the family of a middle-aged woman who died following a cardiac catheterization at a local hospital. Following the cardiac catheterization, a procedure in which the heart is visualized by passing a miniature camera through the femoral artery from the groin area to the heart, patients are taken to a holding room where they are to be monitored until it is safe to remove the stent used to facilitate access to the artery. In this tragic case, the stent was removed prematurely causing the patient to bleed to death in the holding area. Our firm alleged that the premature removal of the stent was not only negligent and in violation of the recognized standard of care but also violative of the hospital’s own policies and procedures.
