Man Falls Through Trap Door With Resulting Paraplegia
Mr. Kelly secured a $3.5 million settlement on behalf of client and his wife after he fell unexpectedly 10 feet through a trap door resulting in a loss of feeling below his waist.  Our client had returned to his recently closed retail store of 25 years to pick-up some personal belongings.  When he entered the property, owned by one of the defendants, he walked into the back office where he attempted to turn on the lights.  When the wall switch did not work, he took a few steps toward a hanging light bulb in the center of the room.  As he did, he fell unexpectedly through the trap door.  Our firm investigated and discovered that the door was left open by representatives of a defendant in the case, one of the largest greeting card retailers in the United States.  We also discovered that all electricity to the premises was shut-off by the representatives and/or property owner.
